Department of Interior stated that it had no record of communications with Jeffrey Clark and Jeffrey Wood while they worked at Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Balch & Bingham LLP, respectively. American Oversight asked for these records because Jeffrey Bossert Clark formerly worked as a British petroleum attorney and was a critic of climate change policy. He now serves as Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice's Environment and Natural Resources Division. Jeffrey Wood was a former coal lobbyist who now serves as Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General.
