Department of Education records regarding stays at the DeVos-owned Amway Grand and GOP-affiliated Grand Hotel. AO requested these records to determine whether DeVos was using her position to personally profit through her hotel ownership and whether she was funneling government funds to GOP allies. These records cover July through September 2017.

American Oversight received three no records responses from the Department of Education OCIO (Office of the Chief Information Officer) stated that it had no records of any payments to DeVos-related hotels. American Oversight asked for records of payments to the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, MI or the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, MI.

The Department of Education had no responsive records to American Oversight's FOIA request for records of any reimbursements paid by the Department of Education for overnight stays at hotel properties owned by Secretary DeVos’s family; emails containing the words “Mackinac,” “Amway,” “Grand Plaza,” or “Grand Hotel.”
