Records from the Florida Office of the Governor in response to American Oversight's request for communications about the redistricting process as well as communications with legislative redistricting leaders and non-governmental redistricting strategists. These records include email communications with legislative redistricting leaders.

Records obtained by American Oversight and cited by ProPublica suggest that members of Gov. DeSantis’ office worked with consultants connected to the national Republican Party when drawing new congressional maps that would give his party a significant electoral advantage.

In recent months, the Florida Legislature has been a hotbed of far-right measures, from new abortion restrictions to a law stifling the discussion of racism while at school or work. Leading the state’s rightward course has been Gov. Ron DeSantis, whom NBC News in June described as having a “hand-in-glove relationship with the Legislature” that has “made the state a test kitchen for conservative ideas.”
