American Oversight released the following statement after the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt broke federal spending laws when he spent $43,000 to install a soundproof phone booth in his office.

After uncovering new details about office renovation expenses at HUD and the EPA, American Oversight filed a broad, multi-agency lawsuit to find out how much taxpayer money senior Trump administration officials – including Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross – have spent to upgrade their personal offices. 

Lawsuit filed by American Oversight against 16 federal agencies seeking records of expenditures made to upgrade or renovate the offices of senior political appointees. 

New emails uncovered by American Oversight show that HUD Secretary Ben Carson and wife were actively involved in selection and purchase of a $31,000 dining set — contradicting previous claims by Carson and HUD officials that he had not been aware of the purchase until after the fact.

Amid news reports that Secretary Ben Carson spent $31,000 on a table and asked officials to spend over $5,000 for chair, American Oversight filed a lawsuit to find out how much taxpayer money Carson spent redecorating or renovating his office.

American Oversight today filed a lawsuit against the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to find out how much taxpayer money Secretary Ben Carson spent redecorating or renovating his office.
