American Oversight has been investigating the Trump administration’s overhaul of the federal tax code. The negotiations for the tax reform bill passed last December took place largely behind closed doors, but the public has a right to know how that bill was written, whether the administration and Congress were truthful about the changes they made, and who will really benefit.

Department of Treasury records regarding ethics waivers given to political appointees. American Oversight requested documents sent to the Office of Government Ethics by multiple agencies after the White House claimed agencies did not have to comply with the Office Of Government Ethics request for the ethics waivers agencies issued. These waivers are from March 2017 and August 2016.

FOIA to Treasury seeking communications between schedulers and advance team personnel for Secretary Steven Mnuchin and any external entities or individuals. This FOIA is seeking records to shed light on the priorities of high-ranking government officials within the agency.

Records and emails from Treasury regarding Secretary Mnuchin's travel and proposed travel as well as PR statements from the agency. This also includes records of Louise Linton's travel.

FOIA to multiple agencies seeking to shed light on whether or not Michael Cohen or any of his associates have influenced federal activities, including whether they have received special treatment for their high-paying clients. American Oversight is seeking communications between any appointee and the following: Michael Cohen, Essential Consultants, Corey Lewandowski, Jason Osborne, Mike Rubino, Barry Bennett, Turnberry Solutions LLC, and Avenue Strategies.

Motion filed by the U.S. House of Representatives seeking leave to intervene in American Oversight’s ongoing lawsuit against the Treasury Department and the Office of Management and Budget over tax reform communications. American Oversight is attempting to compel the release of tax reform communications sent between Congress and both Treasury and OMB. In this motion, Congress argues that certain emails exchanged with the two agencies should be exempt from release under FOIA and should not be produced.

FOIA to Treasury seeking communications containing the terms “Amazon” or “Bezos” or “AWS” or “Oracle” or “Catz” or “Hurd” or “Thiel." following Trump's tweets about Amazon.

Following reports that high-level Trump administration officials expressed concern about the “loyalty” of career civil servants at the State Department, and even explored ways to “purge” some of those career employees from their positions. American Oversight submitted this FOIA to determine whether similar conversations occurred at other agencies.

American Oversight sued 18 agencies in order to force the release of resumes for political appointees across the Trump administration. This is the second lawsuit that American Oversight has filed seeking appointee resumes. FOIA requests included in this complaint cover appointees who joined the administration in the time period follow the first sets of resumes we obtained in 2017.

After uncovering new details about office renovation expenses at HUD and the EPA, American Oversight filed a broad, multi-agency lawsuit to find out how much taxpayer money senior Trump administration officials – including Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross – have spent to upgrade their personal offices.
