Letter Calling for Hatch Act Investigation of DHS Leadership Press Events

Update (Oct. 29): OSC Opens Case File

On Thursday, Oct. 29, the Office of Special Counsel confirmed it will open a case file to address the complaint American Oversight submitted regarding specific DHS press events ahead of the election.

 

In a one-sentence email to American Oversight, the chief of OSC’s Hatch Act unit wrote, “We received your Hatch Act complaint and will open a case file to address this matter.”

American Oversight letter to Special Counsel Henry Kerner and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Joseph V. Cuffari, requesting an investigation into whether Acting Secretary Chad Wolf, Acting Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli, Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tony Pham, or Acting U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Mark A. Morgan ordered any department employees to act in violation of the Hatch Act.
