American Oversight requested records from DHS relating to Kirstjen Nielsen’s statements regarding deaths in DHS Custody. DHS provided American Oversight with Nielsen’s written testimony for the House Judiciary Committee. 

American Oversight sought these records to shed light on DHS’s treatment of vulnerable detainees, including actions DHS officials have taken to address serious threats to the life of people DHS has detained.
